History

The Alta California Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) traces its roots to 1966, when a group of retired officers in the Marysville/Yuba City, Calif. area formed the chapter.  Many of the original members were officers who had retired from the Air Force at Beale AFB.  The original organization was created as a chapter of The Retired Officers Association (TROA).

The chapter enjoyed enlightening speakers and enjoyable social events from the start.  Those activities continued after the national organization changed its name to the Military Officers Association of America on January 1, 2003.

The chapter has provided uninterrupted service to its members since 1966.  Today, its activities extend beyond social functions and include contributions – both monetary and voluntary – to efforts like Wreaths Across America, support of veterans in local colleges, and contributions to youth programs like Civil Air Patrol, the Sea Cadets and the Navy and Air Force Junior ROTC departments at local high schools.

Chapter members are active in their local communities providing outreach and supporting military service members, their families, veterans, and surviving spouses across our five northern California county catchment area.  Members also collaborate with partner organizations, such as the American Legion and the California State Veteran Service Offices.

The chapter is a member of the MOAA California Council of Chapters (CALMOAA) and maintains liaison with state and national government officials to ensure that MOAA’s legislative priorities are understood.  It has consistently earned MOAA's 5-Star Awards (Level of Excellence and Communications).
